The project for the construction of a second carriageway in the Red Vial No 4 between sections from km point 557+200 to km point 206+700 in the Northern Pan-American Highway, belonging to Route 01N, begins at Puerto Salaverry detour (Route 01N junction) and ends at Pativilca town, with a total length of 283.58 km.

 

 Due to functionality reasons, this second carriageway is split into 4 sections:

 

1. Dv. Salaverry-Santa km point 557+200 - km point 450+000

2. Santa-Casma km point 450+000 - km point 381+820

3. Casma-Huarmey km point 369+790 - km point 299+100

4. Huarmey-Pativilca km point 292+137.73 - km point 206+700

 

In addition, the Final Engineering Study provides for the construction of several complementary works:

 

SALAVERRY ROAD INTERCHANGE

Located at the beginning of the stretch, km point 557+200 in the Northern Pan-American Highway (Route 01N), at the turnoff to Puerto de Salaverry.

 

BYPASS ROADS

Bypass roads' lengths are referential, and will be subjected to the adopted geometric design. The start and end km points are referred to the Northern Pan-American Highway, as detailed below:

PEDESTRIAN WALKWAYS AND OVERPASSES

 

Structures made up of 20 pedestrian walkways and 10 overpasses, which will be located in the current roadway, Second Carriageway, Salaverry Road Interchange, roundabouts or bypass roads.

 

DESCRIPTION OF LAYOUT

Section 1 starts at km point 450+000, located at Puente Santa northern exit, and ends at km point 557+200 at Puerto de Salaverry detour. This section of split road is around 91.78 km long, and is only disrupted for the construction of Virú's bypass road.

 

Section 2 starts at km point 381+820, where the future Casma's bypass road will be located, northwards, and ends at km point 416+130, which is where the Chimbote's bypass road begins (not included in the project), located south of the town of the same name. After a disruption 32.51 km long, the stretch continues from km point 448+640 at Chimbote's bypass road exit to km point 450+000, near Puente Santa. This section of split road is 35.67 km long.

 

Section 3 starts at km point 299+100, at the projected Huarmey's bypass road northern exit, and runs as a split road until km point 369+790, where the future Casma's southern bypass road begins. The section's length is 70.69 km.

 

Section 4 starts at km point 206+700, where the concession starts, and runs as a split road of the existing one until km point 292+137, where the future Huarmey's southern bypass road begins. This section is 85.44 km long. In this section are found the Compañía Minera Antamina's pipe works that transport minerals to Huarmey Port. These facilities are arranged on both sides of the existing road, crossing it eight times between km point 235+000 to km point 287+000.

 

 One of the sectors of this Antamina pipeline has been crossed by building a pergola, the first structure of this kind built in Peru.

 

 Throughout the four sections there are a series of public and private services that are affected by the execution of the work, arranged on both sides of the road, consisting in fiber optic lines and electricity poles, also located on both sides of the existing road, as well as bridges, irrigation canals, art and drainage works, among others.

 

 STRUCTURES

 

Section 1 bridges

 

Chao bridge

The new structure will be a reinforced concrete bridge 35.6 m long in a single section. The superstructure is of slab beam type, comprising 5 pre or post stressed beams and reinforced concrete slab 0.2 m thick.

 Huamanzaña bridge

 

The new structure will be a concrete bridge 35.6 m long in a single section. The superstructure is of slab beam type, comprising 5 pre or post stressed beams and reinforced concrete slab 0.2 m thick.

 

Section 2 bridges

 

Huambacho bridge

 

The current Huambacho bridge is a reinforced concrete bridge 30 m long, made up of six sections. It is of frame type, with a slab around 0.9 m thick.

 

 The length of the new bridge is the same as that of the current one, but it has a single section so as not to interfere with the river flow.

 

Santa bridge

 

The new structure will consist in a continuous composite section bridge with steel beams and reinforced concrete deck. Four sections with 56 meters span each comprise the total length of the bridge, which is 224 m. The superstructure made up of four steel beams and reinforced concrete slab 0.22 m thick.

 

It presents a constant cross-section with a roadway 7.2 m wide, as well as a 1.2 m inner berm, a 2.5 m outer berm and an external sidewalk 1 m wide.

 

Section 3 bridges

 

Culebras bridge

 

The new structure will be a reinforced concrete bridge 30.6 m long in a single section. The superstructure is of slab beam type, comprising 5 pre or post stressed beams and reinforced concrete slab 0.2 m thick.

 

 It presents a constant cross-section with a roadway 7.2 m wide, as well as a 1.2 m inner berm, a 2.5 m outer berm and an external sidewalk 1 m wide.

 

Section 4 bridges

 

Fortaleza bridge

 

The new structure will be a reinforced concrete bridge 25.6 m long in a single section, with a 15° slant. The superstructure is of slab beam type, comprising 5 pre or post stressed beams and reinforced concrete slab 0.2 m thick.

 

 It presents a constant cross-section with a roadway 7.2 m wide, as well as a 1.2 m inner berm, a 2.5 m outer berm and an external sidewalk 1 m wide.
