This work involves the execution of the Guadalfeo - La Gorgoracha section, within the Autovía del Mediterráneo A-7, 4,703 m long, and the GR-14 Motorway, which requires widening the N-323, 3,100 m long, up to its intersection with the N-340.
Both motorways are connected to each other by the Guadalfeo link, which is located on the left bank of the national road N-323, direction to Motril, at km point 193.
Regarding the section on Autovía A-7 del Mediterráneo, of great technical difficulty due to a rugged terrain and complex geology, it should be noted the construction of the Cañizares' viaduct that crosses the Escalate watercourse, a unique viaduct due to its location's topography.
The motorway runs an upward slope with an initial ramp of 6.04% along 3,230 meters and a final slope of 3.69% in the remaining 1,470 meters.
The standard section consists of two platforms separated by a 10 m median, with 7 m wide carriageway and 3.50 m wide lanes (two lanes per direction), inner shoulders of 1 m and outer shoulders of 2,50 m, with 1 m berms.
Approaching the Gorgoracha Interchange, where the A-7 (Autovía del Mediterráneo) and A-44 (Autovía de Sierra Nevada) motorways connect, the median changes from broad (10.00 m) to narrow (3.00 m), three lanes per direction of 3.50 m each, 1.00 m and 2.50 m inner and outer shoulders (respectively), and 1.00 m berm, in a single platform.
The esplanade is E3 type, while the highway surface is constituted by 25 cm of gravel and 25 cm of hot bituminous mixture.
Construction of a viaduct to cross the Escalate watercourse, made up of two structures, one per carriageway, placed in curve of 1,300 m radius. Both viaducts have a developed length of 220 m, made up of spans of 75.00 - 60.00 - 50.00 - 35.00 m each. The deck is a mixed variable-edged structure.
The design includes 3 overpasses and 10 underpasses on the motorway. The overpasses are made of precast U-beams. Five of the underpasses are resolved using Matiere type precast vaults.
The horizontal clearance gauges are 6 x 5 m and 10 x 5.30 m. In addition to the vaults, there is a 15.50 m clear width frame with a minimum gauge of 5.30 m, a double deck structure made of post-stressed concrete with 3 spans and 3 boxes (closed frame).
Also, in order to cross the Cañizares watercourse at km point 3+600, another viaduct 100 m long is constructed, with U-beams.
The total number of transverse drainage works is 13, of which there are 4 vaults executed on site of 4.10 x 3.85 m in size, and 8 made of pipes with a diameter of 1.8 m.
The end of the A-7 motorway is the Gorgoracha interchange, which connects the Autovía A-7 del Mediterráneo with the Autovía A-44 de Sierra Nevada.
On the other hand, the GR-14 motorway is built as a new-line motorway, leaving the current N-323 as a service road. This motorway begins at the current N-340 link and has two roundabout intersections connecting with the current N-323.
